Cisco AnyConnect VPN
Authorized employees of the university can use Cisco AnyConnect to access restricted campus resources, such as Banner, when using an Adams State University computer from off campus.
Run the downloaded UMVPN-anyconnect file to install the client. Note: If the Microsoft Defender Smartscreen popup window opens, click More info and then Run Anyway. Follow the program prompts. Connect Using the VPN. Important You must have a network connection to connect via the VPN. Launch the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client. Connect with the Cisco AnyConnect Client
You will need to authenticate using your ASU username and password as well as a certificate to connect using the Cisco AnyConnect Client. If you have not yet imported your certificate please see certificate import instructions below.
- Click Start > All Programs
- Click the Cisco Folder.
- Click the Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client program.
- You may also have an icon in your system tray for the Cisco Anyconnect client. You can also launch the client by double clicking the icon in the system tray.
- Enter vpn1.adams.edu in the text box and click Connect
- You will be prompted to select your certificate. Select the certificate with the name cn=yourusername issuer of vpn1.adams.edu.
- Enter your ASU username and password
- The icon in the system tray will show a lock when connected to the vpn.
Disconnect from the Cisco Anyconnect VPN client
- Right Click the Cisco Anyconnect VPN client icon in your system tray
- Select Disconnect
Please be sure to disconnect from the VPN client when you no longer need access to restricted internal resources.
Import Certificate for Multifactor Authentication
- After you successfully enter your username and password the certificate will be downloaded to your computer. Right click on the certificate and select Install PFX
- The Certificate Import Wizard will start. Select Current User as the store location, then click next.
Cisco Anyconnect Windows 10 Home
- Verify file location, then click next
Cisco Anyconnect Windows 7 Download
- Enter the password for the certificate that you received in the email from Computing Services.
- Select the 'Place all certificates in the following store' option and click Browse. Select 'Personal' as the certificate store location.
- Click next, then Finish to complete the Certificate Import Wizard. You will see The import was successful on completion of certificate import.
Downloading AnyConnect VPN Client for Windows / MAC / Linux

- Login with your ASU Domain Username and Password
- Click on 'AnyConnect'
- Click on 'Start AnyConnect'
- Click on 'Download for XYZ' the 'XYZ' will be replaced by either Windows / MAC or Linux depending from what system you are logging in from.

Some USC online-based services require access through on-campus USC Secure Wireless or a wired network connection. USC offers a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to provide secure remote access to these services when you are off-campus. When off-campus, you must use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to access internal USC systems handling confidential or sensitive data, such as Student Information System (SIS), and file servers for specific schools and departments. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client is a web-based VPN client that does not require user configuration.

Login and Download VPN Software
- Connect to your local network.
- Go to https://vpn.usc.edu/.
- On the login screen, enter your USC NetID and Password.
- Click Login.
- After you have logged in, click AnyConnect on the left.
- In the middle of the screen, click Start AnyConnect.
- On the following Download & Install screen, click the Download for Windows button. You may be prompted to save the file, or it may automatically download to your Downloads folder.
Install AnyConnect VPN Client
- Search for the downloaded file on your computer and double-click it.
- You may see the file in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
- If you do not see it there, look in your Downloads folder.
- A Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup pop-up window appears. Click Next. This will initiate the installation.
- On the End User License Agreement window, select I accept the terms in the License Agreement.
- Then click Next.
- Click Install. The installation will begin.
- If prompted to allow the installation, click Yes.
- If prompted, enter your computer’s Admin ID and password. This is the ID and password you use to log into the computer.
- When the installation is complete, click Finish.
Connect with AnyConnect VPN
- Search for the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client app on your desktop (Type “Cisco AnyConnect” in your computer search bar OR select the Windows Start button and search in the menu items).
- Click to open the application.
- In the VPN pop-up window, enter: vpn.usc.edu
- Then click Connect.
- On the Welcome screen enter your USC NetID and Password.
- Click Sign in.
- On the Please verify your identity screen, click on Send Me a Push, Call Me, or Enter a Passcode to complete the Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) process.
- You are now connected to the USC network through the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.
